The system is working?
1/31/12
"The system is working." That was the BLM's and Ranchers' primary point in my argument yesterday before the U.S. District Court of Idaho in Advocates' case to protect populations and habitat for the Greater sage-grouse. Sure, if you are a ranching or energy corporation, perhaps, but the system is not working for Greater sage-grouse (and teems of other native wildlife to the high desert of the American west). The scientific evidence demonstrates that sage-grouse populations are crashing, and its habitat continues to be degraded and fragmented by livestock grazing, energy development, roads, powerlines, and the invasion of weeds.
During my argument, I tried to illustrate the adsurdity of BLM's current litigation position - which amounted to admitting that its past grazing practices were harming sage-grouse populations and habitat, and then claiming that it will heal these ills by increasing grazing, building more fences, and eliminating all objective controls on livestock grazing throughout the Bruneau and Owyhee areas in southern Idaho.
Sounds like more cancer for the cure, my friends. Stay tuned, and we will see if the court is willing to administer a more effective dose of medicine.

Serious Holes
Your research has some serious holes in it about the population of Sage Grouse; grounded on numbers and population that was none other than a guessing game. Your theme is lay back, lock up, and put Idaho away.
Isn't that one of the
Isn't that one of the definitions of insanity -- continuing to do the same thing while expecting different results ? (In this case continuing to do MORE of the same thing).
Other than fertile imaginations, where has that ever worked?
Hmmmmmmm....
