Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout
The Yellowstone Cutthroat Trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii bouvieri), Montana's state fish and a prized game fish, has a historical range that is a fraction of what it is today.
A freshwater fish related to the cutthroat trout and in the salmon family, the Yellowstone cutthroat populations have been decimated by livestock grazing, mining, logging and overfishing. Competition with non-native fish and interbreeding with introduced rainbow trout have also negatively affected its numbers.
